Most premises have a meter located somewhere on site or close to the land boundary, providing an accurate record of the amount of water consumed. These are known as 'metered accounts'.
However, sometimes fitting a meter is not possible, and these are 'unmetered accounts'. Check your bill to find out what type of account you have.
- Metered accounts – your usage is calculated on the amount of water that has passed through the meter, making it easy for you to check how much water you are using, and also allows you to detect if you have an issue such as a leak within your premises
- Unmetered accounts – your usage is based on the rateable value or assessed charges of the premises. You will be billed when the account is opened and then annually every April
