Our management team

Our management team not only has years of experience in the water industry, but also brings a wealth of experience from other industries including energy, housing, technology and finance.

James Dubois - Managing Director

James’ career spans a couple of decades in the energy markets, and so he has brought a wealth of understanding to how our company should operate in the new water market. His experience of the de-regulation of electricity and gas provision means we can avoid the pitfalls that other market entrants may not.  As Managing Director, he drives the teams towards quality services, fair pricing, and a no-nonsense customer experience.

Angela Evans - Business Delivery Manager

Angela’s career has been defined by creating highly successful customer-centric teams. As Head of Delivery, she is driven to put customers at the heart of everything we do.  Angela views the opening of the water market for businesses as a real opportunity for each water retailer to think outside the box and deliver the changes all business customers deserve, with customer satisfaction her team’s top priority.

Laurie Probets - Business Support Team Manager

Approaching ten years with South East Water, Laurie has worked across many areas of the water supply business, including lead roles on data migration and customer complaints projects. Her current focus is process development and improvement, as well as ensuring our business customers are billed accurately.

Jaqueline Garrigan - Accounts Team Manager

Jacqueline has worked for South East Water for over nine years, and heads-up our credit control and customer payments team. CICM-qualified, she ensures that our customers find their accounts in order and that payments are simple and pain-free.

Michelle Cox - Customer Team Manager

Following a number of years in customer services and work on customer satisfaction enhancement programmes, Michelle was recruited to lead our Accounts Management team in responding to customer enquiries effectively.

Nick Salmon - Independent Chairman

Nick was appointed as Chairman of South East Water on 1st April 2015. He brings a wealth of experience from a number of senior roles and an engineering background.

Nick is currently Senior Independent Director of Elementis plc and a Non-Executive Director at Interserve plc  and Acal plc. Nick served as the Senior Independent Director of United Utilities Group from 2007 to 2014. He was Chief Executive of Cookson Group from 2004 until the end of 2012 and prior to that an Executive Vice President of Alstom SA and Chief Executive of Babcock International Group.

Nick holds a BSc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Paul Butler - Managing Director

Paul has a wealth of water industry experience, having previously been Managing Director of Mid Kent Water from 2001 to 2006 and Chairman of UKWIR, a water industry research organisation from 2005 to 2012.

A Chartered Accountant, he previously worked for Mid Kent Water as Group Financial Controller, Ernst and Young and Marks and Spencer.

Andrew Farmer - Finance Director

Andrew has held a number of senior management posts in finance, most recently at MAG plc, the country's largest UK owned airport operator, and Doosan Power Systems, a leading manufacturing, energy technologies and services company.

Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in London and then after a number of years in investment banking, he became the Investor Relations director for two FTSE 250 companies.

David Hinton - Asset and Regulation Director

David has more than 17 years’ experience at South East Water with a Masters in Business Administration. His most recent post as Head of Assets and Economic Regulation follows a number of roles within the Company including Head of Water Quality and Head of Business Planning as well as experience elsewhere within scientific consultancies and the Public Health Laboratory Service.

Emma Gilthorpe - Independent Non-Executive Director

Emma is a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience working in regulated industries, including the telecoms and airport industries.  Currently working as Strategy, Planning and Regulation Director at Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd, Emma was previously BT plc's Group Director of Industry Policy and Regulation. She has also held a number of other senior regulatory and public policy roles in Cable and Wireless. In addition to her new position on the South East Water Board, Emma also acts as a Non-Executive Director of London First, an organisation which works to maintain London's international competitiveness as a city and world financial centre

Marissa Szczepaniak - Non-Executive Director (Shareholder Nominated)

Marissa is currently the Investment Director - Infrastructure at Hastings and was appointed to the South East Water board in December 2016. Hastings is the manager of one of the funds which owns South East Water. Marissa, who has a Batchelor of Science in finance, accounting and economics from Georgetown University, Washington, is also non-executive director at rail company Porterbrook.

John Barnes - Independent Non-Executive Director
 
John was appointed to the Board in January 2016. Prior to his more recent involvement with a start-up company developing renewable energy schemes John had gained over thirty years’ experience in the Water sector, mainly in the UK, but with spells in the Middle East and New Zealand.  Previous roles for John include Contracts Director at Water Engineering Ltd and Chief Operating Officer at United Utilities. John is a non-executive director of the Mid-Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust and is Executive Chair of All Change for Crewe, focussed on making the most of inward investment to the town.

Paul Rich - Independent Non-Executive Director

Paul Rich was appointed as a Non-Executive Director in 2013 bringing with him more than 25 years’ experience working in national services businesses. Paul was Chairman of NHS Business Services Authority and was previously Royal Mail plc's Deputy Managing Director and Marketing Director. He has also held a number of other senior management roles within Post Office Ltd.

Peter Dixon - Non-Executive Director (Shareholder Nominated)

Peter was appointed Non-Executive Director to the board of South East Water in 2014. Peter brings with him extensive experience acquired in the gas and water UK utilities as a CEO and board member. Until recently Peter was Group CEO of Phoenix Energy Holdings a gas utility and service group in Northern Ireland. Previously Peter was a director of East Surrey Water plc. Peter is Chairman of Phoenix Holdings and Lionrai Investments and a member of the Board of Belfast Harbour Commissioners. He is a director of Eli Finance Ltd the holding company for Four Seasons Healthcare UK, Brighterkind Care homes and The Huntercombe Group and an advisor to Terra Firma Capital Partners.

Chris Girling - Independent Non-Executive Director

An experienced finance professional, Chris Girling has a background in a variety of sectors, including construction, support services, pharmaceuticals and aerospace. Chris retired as Group Finance Director of FTSE 250 Carillion Plc in 2007 and since then he has chaired three audit committees and one pension fund.
